Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 60 m
  2. 1 : km 0.04 - alt. 63 m - From the carpark, follow the road to Little Langdale.
  3. 2 : km 0.31 - alt. 71 m - Follow the fingerpost that says 'Coniston (challenging route). This turns into a stone track.
  4. 3 : km 2.22 - alt. 139 m - Having crossed the road, follow the signed path to Slater Bridge.
  5. 4 : km 2.77 - alt. 105 m - Turn left on to the stone road. The quarry workings are on the right.
  6. 5 : km 2.96 - alt. 111 m - At the National Trust (warning sign for the disused quarry), cross the wooden stile and climb the gradually upward stone track to a large flat area. Walk a distance into the flat area and the entrance to Cathedral Cave can be seen on the right. Depending on the time of day, you might need a torch if you go into the cave. There is a hole in the main cavern that lets daylight through (but it is still quite dark). Exit the cave using the same entry route and then exit the quarry site using the same stile used to gain entry.
  7. 6 : km 3.15 - alt. 108 m - Follow the stone track to the ford.
  8. 7 : km 3.35 - alt. 100 m - Cross the footbridge and follow the road into Little Langdale. Follow the road westwards out of the village.
  9. 8 : km 4.08 - alt. 137 m - Return to the carpark using the same route used on the outward journey.
  10. S/E : km 6.19 - alt. 61 m
