Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 88 m
  2. 1 : km 0.03 - alt. 89 m - Turn right out of the carpark. Head westwards to the River Derwent along the stone track. Go if the stepping stones (if the water is shallow enough and you are brave enough. Otherwise cross the river by walking along the path downstream and using the bridge. Return upstream on the path on the other side.
  3. 2 : km 2.29 - alt. 115 m - Continue on the path past the Youth Hostel. There is a short, very easy scrambling section beyond. The path drifts away from the river and then comes back again. Cross the river using the bridge to the road. Cross over the road and continue along the lane on the other side.
  4. 3 : km 2.74 - alt. 106 m - From the road, follow the fingerpost on to the fell. An obvious track winds around to head southwards.
  5. 4 : km 3.69 - alt. 251 m - Just before the gill, take the track that branches off uphill to the right. There are some stone steps a little later that will confirm you are on the correct track. Follow the obvious track up to the top of the ridge and then to the top of Thornythwaite Fell.
  6. 5 : km 4.88 - alt. 568 m - Return back to Strands Bridge along the same track as the outward route.
  7. 6 : km 7.22 - alt. 103 m - On returning to the road, head along it eastwards (there is a bit of a pedestrian track at the verge).
  8. 7 : km 7.67 - alt. 101 m - Follow the fingerpost to Stonethwaite. Signage is good through the fields.
  9. 8 : km 8.08 - alt. 98 m - On reaching the church, continue down the road and then take the road to the right towards Stonethwaite.
  10. 9 : km 8.81 - alt. 100 m - Follow the signed track that follows Stonethwaite Beck upstream.
  11. 10 : km 10.06 - alt. 136 m - At the junction with Langstrath Beck, follow the obvious track that follows the beck upstream. Follow it to Blackmoss Pot.
  12. 11 : km 11.87 - alt. 183 m - Return back down the Langstrath Valley using the same track used on the outbound route.
  13. 12 : km 13.41 - alt. 146 m - On return to the footbridge, cross it to the east side of Langstrath Beck. Follow the obvious track northwards alongside Langstrath Beck.
  14. 13 : km 13.81 - alt. 132 m - On reaching the junction of becks, cross the footbridge. Follow the obvious track back down the valley towards Rosthwaite. This is well signed.
  15. 14 : km 16.58 - alt. 88 m - Turn left over the footbridge. On reaching the road, turn left and then almost immediately right to return to Rosthwaite carpark.
  16. S/E : km 16.77 - alt. 88 m
