The BTA follows the Shawnee Backpack Trail which has recently changed to follow the ridgetops in this area rather than the valleys. The trail is well marked. In addition, the BT is working to ensure the trail is blue-blazed, but that effort may not be complete.

In 2021, hiker has a bad encounter with a large pack of dogs while passing a house with a large porch in front. In 2022, two hikers report no dogs – so perhaps the issue has been eliminated.

In 2021, hikers reported a dozen dogs. 'Get our your pepper spray and be prepared to defend yourself. Once you're past the dip in the road they consider 'theirs' you should be ok.'- Magpie'21
