Waypoints

  1. S : km 0 - alt. 215 m
  2. 1 : km 0.03 - alt. 217 m - Follow the Trans Pennine Trail westwards out of Penistone.
  3. 2 : km 6.71 - alt. 276 m - Leave the Trans Pennine Trail and take the signed footpath to the south.
  4. 3 : km 8.03 - alt. 300 m - On reaching the road, take the track on the left. This leads to the A628.
  5. 4 : km 8.16 - alt. 301 m - Cross the A628 (take care) and follow the plantation road on the other side. This turns into a track and leads to a field. Traverse the field (a couple of posts lead the way).
  6. 5 : km 8.62 - alt. 297 m - Follow the farm tracks around to Swinden Lane.
  7. 6 : km 9.72 - alt. 318 m - Follow the stone Hordron Road. These lead into the moors.
  8. 7 : km 11.81 - alt. 374 m - At the stone building, head down to the beck at the bottom of the clough. There is a footbridge across the beck.
  9. 8 : km 12.26 - alt. 337 m - Cross the footbridge and follow a track up on to the moors.
  10. 9 : km 13.61 - alt. 487 m - On reaching the top of the moors (a wooden post is normally upright), head westwards along the top of the broad moor. It is very boggy here. Sometimes there are signs of a track, and sometimes there isn't. Just head westwards along the top of the moors.
  11. 10 : km 15.23 - alt. 513 m - If you want, make your way across to have a look at the Hoar Stones (there's no track there). Then return back to the ridge of the moor and continue westwards.
  12. 11 : km 18.76 - alt. 512 m - On reaching the end of the Upper Derwent Valley head southwards over trackless moor. There are a couple of groughs that lead up to the top of the hill to the south. There are a series of small cairns on the right grough (as you look south) as you near the top of the hill.
  13. 12 : km 20.12 - alt. 582 m - On reaching the top of the hill. Head westwards to the Bleaklow Stones (these should be visible). This is trackless too. Just pick the easiest route.
  14. 13 : km 21.13 - alt. 625 m - At Bleaklow Stones head westwards. This is trackless and may require a bearing.
  15. 14 : km 22.12 - alt. 628 m - At Bleaklow Hill (not really that obvious), head northwards to Near Bleaklow Stones.
  16. 15 : km 22.62 - alt. 610 m - Find a suitable pitch to wild camp.
  17. E : km 22.65 - alt. 608 m
