From the summit, heading west to north, you will discover the Monte Rosa massif in the distance, as well as both ends of Lake Maggiore. To the south, Lake Lugano comes into view. At Capanna Tamaro, you can admire the magnificent ridge stretching from Monte Tamaro to Menèra, topped by a huge antenna.

Description of the walk

(S) From the Ritrovo di Neggia inn, head towards the signpost near the road. Head south-east and take the Monte Tamaro trail. After a few bends, you will arrive at the Tamaretto buildings.

(1) Continue climbing towards Monte Tamaro. At Sopra Campo, turn right. Follow the hairpin bends, then keep the cross in sight to reach the summit.

(2) Enjoy the 360° view to the west towards the Monte Rosa massif, to the west and north, looking down on Lake Maggiore, and to the south, looking out over Lake Lugano. Descend along the ridge trail to Bocchetta del Motto Rotondo.

(3) From Bocchetta del Motto Rotondo, follow the path that passes under Motto Rotondo and arrives at a small pass where the fork to Alpe de Duragno begins.

(4) Continue opposite to reach the Tamaro refuge. Enjoy the breathtaking view of Lake Maggiore, the neighbouring peaks including Monte Tamaro and Manèra with its huge antenna.

(5) From the refuge, retrace your steps to the fork towards Alpe Duragno.

(4) Follow the signs and start the descent to Alpe Duragno on the left, clearly visible below.

(6) Leave the path on the right, continue eastwards and continue until you reach a new intersection at Faedone.

(7) Walk to Ai Monti in Nenazz (Monti Nanazzo), which is characterised by several stone huts.

(8) Follow the sign to Soresina and Rivera via the path on the right.

(9) Turn right towards the village and arrive at a small car park.

(10) Head north-east along Via Chiosi and reach Via Alla Chiesa.

(11) Cross Via Alla Chiesa, then turn right and continue along Via Alla Costa until you reach the entrance to a tunnel.

(12) After the tunnel, continue for about 250 m until you reach a crossroads, turn right, then take the first street on the right and return to your accommodation for the day, the Albergo Elvezia (E).
