Bighton walks

A pleasant Hampshire walk that starts from the attractive village of Cheriton to the east of Winchester. The route follows the River Itcehn north through Tichborne Park to Tichborne. Before following the Kings Way south towards Gander Down.

Let’s go for a walk in Jane Austen’s countryside around Alton, Hampshire. She lived in a nearby village and the house she once occupied is open to the public. The Jane Austen House in Chawton is where the author lived from 1809 to 1817 when due to poor health she moved to Winchester to seek medical care. It is now a museum showcasing the house as it was during Jane Austen’s time.

On this walk, you will be able to enjoy : royal dalliances, corn fields, the birth of a river, a Roman road, skylarks and cowslips, renowned rabbit warren on high downland and a racehorse country.This part of the route follows the Wayfarer's Walk
