Burgundy walks

This a short pleasant walk, mostly in the shady forest with just a modest amount of climbing. There is a fascinating historic connection in that one of Napoleon’s grenadier guards, Noisot, created in his own name the Parc Noisot and the associated walks, waymarked with symbols of Napoleons’ Russian, Egyptian and Italian military campaigns.This guide is for the longer but most fulfilling route – the Russian route. About halfway along is a staircase of 100 steps marking the number of days Napoleon took to regain power after release from first captivity.The walk is also of geological interest, being part of the Combe de Fixin. The meaning of Combe is a narrow gorge, ravine or small valley often containing a mixture of limestone, cliff faces, and forestry, leading to a plateau, but with no significant water course, with similarity to the Combes in England such as Ilfracombe. The excellent Tourist Office in the nearby and famous Gevry Chambertin can tell you more.

Marked hike N°2.A hike in the heart of the birthplace of Colette. Through woods and passing by ponds, often described in her work.

A hill walk with no major challenges, in an unspoilt setting with villages overlooked by Mont Bouzu. Changing views all along the way, including a wide shot of Mont Saint-Vincent and a visit to the Château de Pontus-de-Thyard.

Discover Mercurey's surroundings: the vineyards, of course, but also the different viewpoints over the village and the beautiful 12th-century churches.

Coming from Fontaine or Chagny, enter Rully, follow the signs to Agneux, go through the hamlet and up the narrow road to the pass; you're on the site of the caves, park at the pass exit near the lagoon. This is where the hike begins.

This walk, with its slight incline, is ideal for stretching your legs if you've got a couple of hours to spare.

A short hike where, after playing leapfrog with the streams that run through Anost, you climb through the forest to a beautiful viewpoint dominated by the statue of Notre-Dame de l'Aillant.

A lovely hike in the footsteps of the Maquis, alternating between hedged farmland and forest, with beautiful panoramic views, especially of Lac de Pannecière.

Well-marked, fairly easy route (it is indicated on the hiking map (Dijon Ouest - Val Suzon - Sainte-Seine l'Abbaye - 3022ET).Beautiful views over the valley on a clear day.Itinerary initially structured in four parts (Les Balcons du Suzon, parts 1 to 4), with an outward and return section off the itinerary. ⚠️The complete trail is described here in its entirety, with no escape route.

This trail leads around the Lac de Pont artificial reservoir. This dam was built in 1882 and brought up to standard at the end of 2018. Car park, camping, restaurant, beach and leisure facilities are all available. A footbridge and staircase provide access to the dam and the right bank path. Other modifications underway following the 2018 drought. This October 11, 2018: diving board and beach have been demolished and will be rebuilt. A floating footbridge is planned to serve the activity zones.

This path crosses the Channel-Mediterranean ridgeline via the "mountain", into which the 4km Blaizy tunnel is bored.Along the way, discover the XV ventilation shaft, the panorama of the Ouche valley and the Baulme la Roche cliff.

A signposted trail along the entire route takes in the rich landscapes of the Hautes Côtes de Nuits, as well as the village of Villers-la-Faye.

This is a whole end-to-end 8-day dog-friendly 80 Km trip along the Route des Grands Crus (RDGC) from Santenay up to the edge of Dijon. On the way, you walk through great countryside, vineyards, and villages, covering the whole of the Côte d’Or which consists of two halves, the Côte de Beaune in the South end and the Côte de Nuits at the north end. We've divided the route into eight comfortable walks designed to provide a linear end-to-end route, each starting and finishing in accessible towns or villages. The wines and associated villages and vineyards are some of the most famous in the world with an unprecedented number of Grand Cru and Premier Cru marques, such as Chassagne-Montrachet in the south and Gevrey-Chambertin in the North (even the names of the villages sound enticing!). You will see that some of the vineyards are tiny - hence the exclusivity! - and indeed often divided up historically between many owners.

This is stage 8, the final walk in the Route des Grands Crus (RDGC) series, starting in the world famous Grand Cru Burgundy wine town of Gevrey-Chambertin, ending on the outskirts of Dijon.It begins at Gevrey church, taking you past the Chateau up through woods to the delightful Parc Noisot and past Clos Napoleon vineyard and restaurant to the charming villages of Fixey, Couchey and Marsannay before passing the last major vineyard of the Cote d'Or to the outskirts of Dijon at Genove. It is dog friendly and a reasonably easy walk after a climb at the start. The Yellow Red (YR) lines to indicate the RDGC make for good navigation.

This is stage 7 in the series of Route des Grands Crus walks runs from Nuits-St-Georges through the vineyards and woods and combes to Gevrey-Chambertin. Both of these small towns are host to some of the most famous red wines in the world as are some of the charming villages and landmarks in between like Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny and Chateau de Vougeot.It is a dog friendly walk (there is a good veterinary surgery in Nuits). It is a fairly long and reasonably challenging walk as there are some climbs in the middle leading off the vineyards into the woods. Return by bus and train is possible to the start.

This is stage 5 of the Route des Grands Crus and it runs from Pernand-Vergelesses round the woods and vineyards along to Magny-lès-Villers and Villers-la-Faye villages and round the quarry and down into Prémeaux-Prissey. .It is dog friendly and through both vineyards and countryside.

This is stage 4 of the Route des Grands Crus series (RDGC). It covers the path from Beaune outskirts at Bouzaise Park through to Savigny-lès-Beaune and then Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton.It is dog-friendly and runs through charming villages, famous vineyards and wonderful countryside with great views. You will walk in both open country and the woods using good tracks or very quiet roads. There is some climbing but in general the walk is reasonably flat. Directions are well signposted. Although Aloxe-Corton is slightly off the official RDGC we finish there for a number of reasons outlined below including return route options

This stage 3 in the overall Route des Grands Crus Burgundy series. This dog friendly walk runs from Pommard centre up into the hills through vineyards and woods and then finishes down in the outskirts of Beaune in the delightful Park de la Bouzaise. There is an option for an easy circular return if needed.

This 2nd walk on the 8-walk Route des Grands Crus (RDGC) starts in the centre of the famous wine village of Meursault and joins the RDGC proper on the west edge of the village or a fraction further on near Auxey-Duresses. It continues through the charming village of Auxey-Duresses itself and runs through wonderful countryside and vineyards and although there is one steep climb, this provides great views of the valley villages below, before eventually reaching the wine village of Pommard. The walk is dog friendly.This is stage 2 of the Route des Grands Crus.

This is stage 1 Santenay to Meursault of the Route des Grands Crus.This walk runs from Santenay through villages of Chassagne Montrachet and St Aubin to the charming small town of Meursault; moderate difficulty with a bit of climbing, dog friendly via countryside and vineyards. End to end, a train service enables return to start.

In the land of fruit trees, a walk through the valleys and hills. Sunken paths, springs, viewpoints and built heritage enhance this outing.

Between the longer hikes around Toucy and the discovery of down-town, this walk allows you to gain heigh in order to contemplate this screen of greenery which surrounds the village. These paths, oftenly traveled, offered a great diversity.

This very natural outing allows you to discover the landscaped paths, shaped by man over the centuries. It allows, with some beautiful viewpoints, to discover the Puisaye and the town of Toucy, nestled against a hill.

The springs and washhouses without forgetting the Château and the Chapel of Chéry will be the most important heritage sites to discover for this outing. Throughout this route, alternation between valleys and hills where points of view are numerous.

Marked hike n°62.This site located in the void diagonal, as some like to say, conceals many assets.If, with the help of agricultural machinery, the search for productivity was the goal in the middle of the 20th century, it has not led to the expected results. Today, it is towards a restoration of biodiversity that we are moving. The fauna and flora are gradually returning.Discovering this heritage also helps to educate children.Superb educational walk!

Marked path n°32Alternating ups and downs among the orchards, vineyards and crops. Beautiful views over the valley and the hillsides of Yonne.

All along the route, you will discover centenaries trees, educational signs about the chestnut tree.

Market circuit n°23.In an hour walking, rendezvous in the 13th century, on a legendary path and meet the middle-age castles builders.

From park to garden, this family-orientated circuit will help you discover the many beautifully maintained green spaces in the city of Sens.

This pleasant circuit offers beautiful views of the town of Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, thanks to its small climbs. The path across woodland provides shade on one-third of the route during sunny weather.

Set off on a tour through the historic centre of Sens to discover the many tourist attractions of this beautiful city.

Reserved for walkers and cyclists, this easy loop in a calm setting will allow you to explore the Sens vine conservatory comprising more than 600 plants of 30 grape different varieties, before returning via the banks of the Yonne. Along the way, you’ll also find a sports circuit with gym apparatus, and a golf driving range.

Discover the flora and fauna that populate these old swamps that have shaped the environment of this lake, surrounded by woods and forests.

A rather short bucolic walk.Le Tacot path passes nearby the ochre and clay quarries where a protected species of toad "Le sonneur à ventre jaune", the yellow bellied toad hides away. Easily identified thanks to its yellow and black striped belly, and its heart-shaped pupils, no doubt, remnants of its prince charming days..... Its bright yellow colour, signifying toxicity is a means of protection against its predators.

Marked hike N°61.Born in Fougères in Brittany, where there is a museum dedicated to his work, the painter Emmanuel de la Villéon lived on a semi-permanent basis from 1900 to 1935 in the manor house in the hamlet of Bitry. An admirer of Monet, he adopted the approach of the Impressionists.This trail has the added attraction of panels composed of reproductions and commentaries. They allow the viewer to recognize some of the places painted by the artist, with their hedge-enclosed farmlands typical of the Puisaye.

Marked hike N°8.You will see no less than 8 fountains and 6 wash-houses on this rather easy hike, ideal for family walks. A few picnics spots are available here and there, to take a break and enjoy a relaxing moment (Fountain of the Moon, of the Pisserotte .....) Even though there are some hills along the way, it is a very pleasant walk with a lot of historical heritage spots to be discovered.Also good for mountain biking.

Marked hike N°71.A whole new way to discover the story of the construction of the Canal de Briare! With this hike you can follow a part of its water supply system and come back along the old route to the incredible monument that we today know as the Seven Locks.

Marked hike N°51.From the old medieval castle, discover a village built between an old, partly dried-up marsh and a cliff. Druyes Valley offers a green setting that contrasts with the chalky rocks that support the ruined building.

Marked hike N°1.This trail, dedicated to Colette, was opened in 1993 by the pupils of the Colette college of Saint-Sauveur en Puisaye. Along this trail, everything recalls the works of this author, born in Saint-Sauveur en Puisaye in 1873. The author has described her birthplace so well - that even though she has given other names to the villages and characters, you can sense her literature at every corner.

After a brief incursion into the grounds of the Colette castle/museum and the passage at the foot of the Saracen tower, this walk continues through the countryside along the lanes of the Puisaye.

Marked hike N°24.Leaving from the fairground, you will walk along paths that have a mysterious past and are steeped in legends.

Marked hike N°44.Across the woods and the fields, passing the ponds, you will discover areas where the earth has been shaped into artistic creations and pottery.

An all-season trail in this region of Puisaye amid hedges (bouchures), heritage, and legends.

A mountain biking route for anyone who loves bike rides and discovering natural and architectural heritage. You're in for a treat! But be prudent!

Marked hike N°7.This hike is themed by springs and wash-houses. The water flowing from the springs supplies the groundwater of the Parisian Basin on the one hand, and the Seine by way of the Loing River on the other hand. It’s a very well-marked path (#7), through an unspoiled natural environment. This track can also be done on horseback or mountain bike. It is listed on the departmental walking and hiking map (PDIPR) established by the department of the Yonne.
