Carlton Highdale walks

This is a circular walk from the lovely village of West Burton. The start has all the uphill and can be steep but the steep part is short lived. The views are great and there is some interest on the way around with the old lime kiln and the ruins of the Knights Templar chapel.

This Yorkshire Dales walk explores the pleasant countryside and moorland of Wensleydale. It starts from Aysgarth village and uses moorland paths and tracks for much of its route.

This a pleasant walk in Wensleydale that allows you to enjoy this beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The highlights of the walk include the River Ure, Redmire Force and the Chapel of the Kinights Templar.

This Yorkshire Dales walk traverses some fine limestone scenery above Wharfedale. The start is near the village of Conistone and the route takes you high above the dale to enjoy some wonderful views. A section of the Dales Way is used for this walk.

Wensleydale in the Yorksire Dales National Park offers some wonderful walking. This route takes in a stretch of the River Ure, passes historic Nappa Hall before traversing the slopes below Ellerkin Scar. The walk then visits Whitfield Gill Force before returning to Askrigg.

The first part of this circular walk is along River Wharfe and the second one on High Lane, which offer you beautiful points of view of the valley.

There's a pay car park in Burnsall (£6.30 for 6 hours) or you may find free parking on the street. This is a beautiful walk taking you on a path beside the river Wharfe, over the suspension bridge and up to Hebden (picnic table en route, tea room and pub in Hebden). Leave Hebden and head up High Lane which takes you in to Grassington (location for the new series of All Creatures Great and Small). You then head down to the Wharfe and make your way to Linton Falls passing Little Emily's Bridge as you carry on up the road to the crossroads. Go straight on along Lauradale Lane and down into the pretty village of Linton (pub). Leave the village green and head out across open fields to join Thorpe Lane. Follow the lane into Thorpe and take the road to the left and follow the lane to the end and turn right and head downhill and make your way back to Burnsall crossing at least 8 stiles over dry stone walls. A welcoming pint then awaits you at the Red Lion in Burnsall.  

An easy circular walk from Grinton with lots of interest. The moors above Grinton have the remains of the lead mining industry and on this walk, you will see those remains plus a well preserved smelting mill and its flue which runs up the hillside. The area is now a grouse moor and you will pass shooting butts and feeding stations for the birds. Great refreshments in Grinton and also over the bridge in Fremington at the Dales Bike Centre.

This route is mostly on public Bridleways and moorland access tracks with a rough gravel surface with drainage channels crossing them. #WalkingWithWheels.

A walk from Appletreewick and back along the Wharfe to Burnsall and around Grimwith Reservoir.

A walk of two distinct halves.The first part of the walk ascends gently along the side of Gunnerside Gill, to take in the remains of the abandoned lead mines. It crosses the moor to Swinner Gill mine where a short detour takes in a waterfall and cave. The walk then curves around towards the village of Keld. The second part of the walk descends to the waterfalls and then through the gentle valley curving around into Swaledale where it passes through typical Yorkshire Dales farmland.

Lovely circular walk to discover Janet's Foss waterfall, Gordale Scar and waterfall and Malham Cove. Dog friendly. Can be very busy during summer months.

A circular route which can be done in either direction. As described it leaves Malham village on the good paths to the popular Janet's Foss waterfall, then it takes the quiet road past the entrance to Gordale and up the hill until a track leads to the summit of Weets Top. The gentle descent of Calton Moor provides a different landscape and views over to Rystone Fell and Cracoe Fell. More quiet roads allow you to take in the pretty villages of Calton and Airton before following the riverside path back to Malham passing, Hanlith Hall and Aire Head, which is the source of the river Aire.

A circular route which can be done in either direction. As described it leaves Malham village on the good paths to the popular Janet's Foss waterfall, then it takes in the valley leading into Gordale Scar, returning to the road and up the hill until a track leads to the summit of Weets Top. The gentle descent of Halton Moor provides a different landscape and leads to Hanlith where you pick up the Pennine Way path back to Malham.

A walk of two halves. The first part ascends gently on good tracks, passing the remains of the Old Gang Smelting Mill, before crossing the stream and crossing Melbecks Moor and passing the spoil heaps from the long ceased lead mining industry. The path descends via one of the 'hushes' to the Bunton Level above Gunnerside Gill. The return leg is on grassy paths which contour Brownsey Moor and pass through farmland, often following dry stone walls and passing working farms and traditional barns.

A great circular walk from Malham village, taking in Janet's Cave / Foss, Gordale Scar, Malham Tarn, the limestone pavement at the top of Malham Cove and the cove itself before finishing back at the car. Consistently interesting and varied scenery. ⚠️Please note that there is a scramble up steep water worn rock in Goredale between waypoints (2) and (3). Some people might find this challenging and please do not attend to do this part when it is raining or icy! However an alternative is possible.

A nice circular walk from Malham in a westerly direction towards Settle and then curving north past Attermire Scar with a detour to explore Victoria Cave. The loop returns towards Malham via Malham Cove. Interesting and varied scenery throughout the walk and mostly on well maintained paths or tracks.

An interesting circular walk from the delightful village of Malham. Up through the pasture below Pikedaw Hill to the well mark footpaths that lead across to Langscar Gate and then Malham Tarn, which is a great place to pic-nic. The return leg is via the dry valley of Watlowes to Malham Cove with its spectacular limestone pavement. Descend via the well made steps and then the less trodden footpath to the East of the village.

This is a circular route starting at Keld and takes in the stunning Kidston Falls and the Upper Swaledale valley before you climb the Gunnerside Gill to times past and the lead minning settlements. Climbing up out of the gill and on to the moors and superb views of the dales landscape and then dropping down the gully to Crackpot Hall and back to Keld.

An easy walk in scenic Swaledale, with an adventurous option to witness the austere beauty of Swinner Gill.

A 100km circular ride starting in Richmond and passing through the Yorkshire Dales taking in the climbs of Kidstones Pass, Fleet Moss and Buttertubs Pass. Great scenery and places for refreshment stops.
