Park in the Col du Kreutzweg car park, located almost level with and opposite Villa Mathis, on the other side of the road, on the right as you head up from Hohwald on the D425.
(S/E) Leave the car park and head left up the tarmac road marked with a Blue Cross. Walk past the Forest House on your right and you’ll soon reach a crossroads with a footpath.
(1) Ignore this path marked with a Yellow Saltire and continue along the road following the Blue Cross markings. Take care, as there is some traffic on this road. You will reach a hairpin bend.
(2) Before this bend, take the path on the left, still following the Blue Cross markings. Continue uphill to reach the Route de la Chaume des Veaux. Do not turn right onto this road but continue straight ahead; look to the left at the end of a field for the roof of a yurt. Continue on to the Kaelbenhuette Farm and then reach a new junction.
(3) Leave the Blue Cross markings and turn left onto the stony path marked with a Red Ring. At the next junction, follow the dual markings of the Red Ring and Yellow Saltire; this is the Hochchfeld path. Continue until you reach the Col de la Charbonnière car park.
(4) Turn left onto the D57 road for a few metres, then turn right off it next to a shed to take the forest track. You will then come to a path junction.
(5) Turn left here, following the Red Saltire markings. You will reach the junction with the wide forest road known as the Chemin de la Tanhütte.
(6) Follow it to the left and continue along it until you reach the Abri de la Tannhütte.
(7) Take the same forest road downhill. After a circular bend to the left, you’ll reach a viewpoint at a path junction.
(8) Stay on the track, now marked with a Red Ring. Reach the D425 road, cross it carefully and walk down to the right for about 50 metres along the verge beside the road, then take the path on the left. Continue along this unmarked path until you reach another path junction before a stream.
(9) Turn right to follow the bank of this stream. Return to the path marked with a Red Ring. Continue until you reach a bridge.
(10) Cross the bridge over this small stream, a tributary of the stream that becomes the Wintzenbach. Walk uphill for a few metres, then turn left onto the path, which continues to climb. This will take you to Hirra Farm, situated on the circular bend of the D425.
(11) Continue climbing along the forest track, marked with a Yellow Cross. You will arrive at the Parc Alsace Aventure. Turn left and cross the D425 road with care to reach the Col de Kreuzweg car park (S/E).
