Cornworthy walks

A circular walk using some of Devon's historic 'green lanes' through Cornworthy, Tuckenhay and Allaleigh. The route passes through the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with views from coast to moor.

The lower half of the Dart Valley Trail, a great circular walk in itself! One of the area’s truly great walks, this day- long ramble follows the wooded banks of the broad and beautiful Dart estuary, on a route crammed with gems and jewels of human and natural history.

Discover the Totnes of times gone by. A walk through Totnes’ narrow streets to discover a town crammed full of history. This walk can be extended by following the River Dart to nearby Dartington along the riverside path.

This is a (mostly) circular walk that takes in a short section of the South West Coast Path and passes sub-tropical plants, dramatic cliffs and WW2 relics on a route that skirts the beautiful Coleton Fishacre house and gardens. The path is clearly marked and well-trodden. There are several steep sections and plenty of steps, but there are lovely views as compensation.

A lovely linear walk up the Dart Estuary. Enjoy views of the estuary as you pass through woodland, farm fields and the Greenway Estate. You can choose to return by water, on foot or by steam!

A short waterside and woodland stroll. This short walk skirts the edges of Waterhead creek in Kingswear before heading into the woods alongside the estuary and back along the railway line.

Castles and cliffs, seals and skylarks. A circular walk around to the mouth of the Dart estuary with views out to sea and along to Start Bay. Explore the World War 2 battery at Froward and find out more about the Daymark.

This walk can be done as two smaller circular routes or joined up to make a longer figure of eight. The walk offers great coastal views, green lanes, glorious beaches and plenty of history and wildlife along the way!

Countryside and castles on the South Devon coast. Small but perfectly formed, this satisfying circuit is full of character and interest, offering glorious views from the cliffs, the tang of the sea close up on the rocky shore, the rich history of the castle and the beautiful River Dart. This circular walk can also be started at Dartmouth Castle. You can use the Castle ferry from Dartmouth, to reach the alternative start of this walk.

A peaceful woodland walk up to the earthworks of a Civil War fort, then around the headland to enjoy views along the coast and out to sea.

A walk exploring the wild and rugged coastline of the AONB. This walk is a perfect mix of natural and local history – with the spectacular coast of the Brixham and Kingswear Peninsula, and the WW2 military site at Froward Point.

Like a satisfying meal, this walk has the shingle sweep of the beach to start, a main course of all the wildlife you could wish for on a National Nature Reserve, and the sweet and characterful village of Slapton for dessert. Perfect!

A circuit linking Brixham’s two headlands. Giving fine views out over Torbay and towards the mouth of the Dart. Plenty of local history from Napoleon to the historic fishing fleet of the harbour, mixed in with an abundance of superb wildlife and nationally protected landscapes.

A perfect mix of riverside, ancient woodland and beautiful countryside. A beautiful leafy walk following the amber waters of the River Avon through classic English woodland, starting and finishing in the tranquil village of Loddiswell.

A stroll along Slapton Line. Find out more about Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve and the Shingle Ridge, on this short trail with fabulous views over the coast and the lake.

A gentle walk through a sumptuous landscape. The graceful form of Start Bay curling away to the north and south, freshwater lagoons, meadows, woodland, and peaceful Devon lanes meandering between blossoming banks.

Discover clues to the history of the town. A 1.5 hours easy walk around the town of Kingsbridge. Leave at least an extra hour if you wish to explore the museum, churches and pubs. Creeks and countryside. This walk exploring some of Kingsbridge estuary’s creeks – Bowcombe and Frogmore. Steep in places but the views are worth the climb!

A stroll through parkland and woodland. Stroll out of Kingsbridge for a tranquil dawdle through parkland meadow and dappled woodland, just a hop, skip and a jump from the town – an unexpected delight.

A delightful route following creeks and green lanes steeped in the trade and travel of past times. This short moderate walk offers melting views of the boat-bobbing estuary and charming South Hams countryside, and a host of waterfowl and wading birds into the bargain.

All of maritime life is here in Start Bay’s great sweep of sea and land. Traditional fishing communities, and the mysterious and tragic lost village of Hallsands. The walk wends its way home again along green lanes and footpaths.

Explore upstream from Salcombe. This lovely tranquil mosey winds around sleepy creeks and fingers of land nosing out into the lapping waters, with brilliant and surprising views to keep your senses sharp.

Step out along the coast path from the Salcombe Estuary to meet the wide open sea. Exhilarating scenery, and a wonderful way to get the wind in your sails. This walk crosses one of our beautiful estuaries, make sure you check the ferry timetable to help plan your route.

A stretch of coastline, a pretty village at the mouth of the Teign and some pleasant inland farmland.

A lovely village and a Brunel memorial, plus dramatic clifftop walking and superb views.

This stage has a sting in the tail as an option for all those YHA lovers. The Two Moors Way goes about 5 miles east of YHA Dartmoor at Bellever but that shouldn't stop you from staying there. The extra few miles at the end of this stage and the journey back to the Two Moors Way at the beginning of the next stage are in no way laborious, rather a bonus.
