Description of the walk

(S) From the Courbanges lodge, take the road towards the Cascade du Cheix and continue to the Rocher de l’Aigle via the D36.

(1) Continue along the D36 road until, after a gentle descent, you reach the car park in the Chaudefour Valley.

(2) At the Nature Reserve Centre, take the Discovery Trail and follow it until you reach the Pérouse Waterfall.

(3) After a return trip to the waterfall, head left towards the Pont Sainte-Anne.

(4) Cross the bridge, then take the path on the left towards the Cascade de la Biche.
On the plateau, at the entrance to the clearing, turn left towards the forest.

(5) Here you have two options:
- take a detour via the Cascade de la Biche by continuing straight on along the path; there are signposts; allow an extra hour for the round trip; the path is a dead end with a steep gradient.
- Turn left and begin the ascent of the Puys. First, zigzag through the forest before emerging onto the mountain pasture and reaching the summit of the Puy de Champgourdeix.

(6) Stay on the path which gradually climbs through the mountain pasture to end at the summit of Puy de la Perdrix.

(7) Go round this summit and start the descent on the left along the track leading to the Col de Couhay and theGR®30.

(8) Take it to the right, passing the ski lift stations. Continue generally westwards to reach the path junction at the edge of the woods.

(9) Head south-west into the woods, continuing along theGR® to reach the hamlet of La Morangie.

(10) Cross this hamlet, follow the D644 for a few metres, then turn left off it to stay on theGR®. Then cross the Ruisseau de la Trentaine. Enter the Bois de Domais. On leaving the woods, you’ll soon reach the hamlet of Chareire and its lodge, today’s stop (E).
