Description of the walk

Start : Noran Bank Farm, CA11 0NR

(S/E) From Patterdale, Noran Bank Farm walk South along the road A592 till you pass the Deepdale valley.

(1) After the telephone box, take the stile into the wall on your right then follow the path uphill (South).

(2) Follow the path up through the forest (How End) then a steady climb with views across to High Hartsop and St Sunday Crag.

(3) From Hart Crag, turn to the right. Then, there is plenty of spots to enjoy the views down the southern valley to Windermere, while eating lunch.

(4) Final ascent to Fairfield which is easy then a steep descent through the saddle at Deepdale Hause.

(5) Climbing back up to St Sunday Crag.

(6) Take the narrow path on the right (East-North-Esat). Then it quietens down as you head for the left-hand fork in the path and a gradual descent (North-North-East). Good views across Grisedale.

(7) At a junction just before the road, turn right (South-East).

(8) Follow the path on your left.

(9) Then follow the road to pass in front of Patterdale Hotel and then White Lion Inn and walk back along A592 back to Noran Bank Farm . (S/E)

Great views. I could not find the route between points 1and 2; there was no discernable path where the GPS route indicated. I assume that it was overgrown with bracken. However, managed to find a steep path that joined up with the path after point 2.

It is still a great walk in its own right and the descent of Grisedale is a nice contrast to the ascent of St Sunday Crag.
