Langsett walks

This Peak District walk explores the moors to the northwest of Sheffield and visits an area that sees relatively few walkers. Do select a clear day as navigation can be difficult in poor visibility.

This Peak District walk is another route close to the western outskirts of Sheffield. The walk explores one of the valleys that run eastwards towards the Don - in this case the Ewden Beck. The start is close to Broomhead Hall.

This Peak District walk explores the moors to the east of the Derwent Valley Reservoirs. Including some quiet paths and tracks, the route also visits the popular summit of Back Tor and the monument to the Lost Lad. This valley is particularly impressive and feels quite remote - considering how close it is to the thousands of people that are circuiting around Ladybower.

The Thurgoland Boundary Walk is just under nine miles long and takes in part of the upper Don valley as well as some of the tributaries of the river Dove. The route includes a short section on the old Dove Valley railway above the Silkstone tunnels and the route crosses the old Woodhead rail route twice.

The South Pennines are part of the Peak District National Park and this walk explores the moors to the west of Holme. The route uses well trodden paths and tracks and offers some fine views during the course of the walk.

This Peak District Walk starts from Fairholme and includes Ladybower and Derwent resevoirs, a moorland section and the dramatic Alport Castles where a large landslip was the cause of the current scenic interest.

A hill walk followed by a stroll along the reservoir makes this a worthwhile outing.

This Barnsley walk starts in Silkstone and includes an old waggonway, the Cannon Hall country park and sections of the Barnsley Boundary Walk and the Penistone Boundary Walk.

This walk follows a section of the Barnsley Boundary Walk and explores the countryside to the west of this town. The route also includes Wharncliffe Crags which offer some fine views.

Bleaklow offers some excellent walks and this Peak District route used minor paths to explore Higher Shelf Stones, Bleaklow and Grains in the Water.

This Peak District walk on the quieter side of Kinder Scout provides the basis for a great day outdoors.The outward route takes you onto the plateau crossing wild moorland. Once Kinder Downfall is reached you can enjoy a downhill walk in some of the best scenry in this part of the National Park.

This Peak District walk comes with a warning as it's not suitable for those who don't like scrambling along the side of vertical banks or who are not happy crossing streams. It is undoubtedly easier to do the walk by going up Blackden Brook - rather than coming down it - and it is easier in good, dry weather. The reward is some great views!

This Peak District walk explores two of the gritstone edges in the eastern sector of the National Park. The walk generally follows well defined paths and tracks and offers some fine views from elevated positions along the way. After heavy rain do expect some boggy ground under foot along some sections of the route.

The Cawthorne Boundary Walk is a 14 mile circular walk usually starting at the Village Hall. I have broken the roughly into 4 parts smaller of approximately 3-4 miles radiating from the village, enabling the walker to walk the village boundary in part over 4 walks or the complete boundary in 1. I pick up a public footpath close to the center of the village, opposite Beatson House restaurant and next to the Methodist Chapel.

A short walk in a rural area close to Sheffield along footpaths. Reasonably signposted but care is needed to keep on track. Apt to be muddy. Sheep, horses and sometimes cattle are likely to be encountered.

Win Hill occupies a strategic position and as such offers great views over the heart of the Peak District.

This lengthy Peak District walk demonstrates the variation in countryside that makes Sheffield such a pleasant place from which to walk. It includes reservoirs, great views, a pretty valley and wild moorland.

A demanding but spectacular moorland crossing of Derbyshire’s highest hill to visit an iconic coaching inn.

Geological curiosities abound on this classic walk on the junction between gritstone and limestone.

Sample the opening of the Pennine Way and explore three of the Vale of Edale’s pretty hamlets.

Starting from Bretton Country Park Visitor Centre, this walk will lead you to Horbury Bridge through woodland, Overton and Middlestown.

A Peak District walk that explores the eastern end of the Kinder plateau. Starting from Edale the route follows the slopes of Kinder to reach Hope Cross. From here the walk continues to gain height and follows a high level route for the return via Ringing Roger to Edale.

This Peak District walk starts from Edale and explores Rushup Edge, Brown Knoll, Edale Cross, Crowden Tower and Grindslow Knoll. The route contains many of the key features of this dramatic part of the Derbyshire Peak district and should be saved for a fine day.

Grindsbrook and Edale Head are two of the highlights of this Peak District walk from Edale. Superb walking high above Edale on the Kinder Scout Plateau provides excellent views over this part of Derbyshire. Choose a good day for this route as poor weather makes navigation tricky.

This ridge walk is a very popular excursion mainly because of the excellent views.

This Peak District walk starts from Edale village and climbs onto Kinder Scout via Ringing Roger. The route provides rough moorland walking on relatively quiet paths and includes Upper Grindsbrook, Crowden Brook and Edale Cross before descending Jacob's Ladder on the return to Edale.

A gentle stroll round the historic village of Hope with a pretty interlude along the River Noe.

A stiff climb to a superb rocky viewpoint with a delightful return through heathery hillside and riverside meadows.

A rewarding ascent of a Peak District hill that offers fine views into Edale. An ascent of Win Hill includes a stiff climb onto the ridge but otherwise this a an easy and relaxing walk.

The Castleton Ridge in Derbyshire is one of the great ridge walks in the Peak District. Starting from Hope the walk includes Lose Hill and Mam Tor before returning via Castleton to the start.

Circular route starting from Barber Booth via section of Pennine Way Grindsbrook and Edale.

A Peak District walk that includes some less walked areas of the National Park. The route uses a mixture of paths, tracks and quiet country lanes and includes walking the main ridge of Rushup Edge.

This Peak District route is a classic offering some great views from Rushup Edge before dropping down to the picturesque dale above Edale. The route is rarely quiet and on good days there are usually many people enjoying this walk.

Circular route from Mam Tor along the ridge to Hollins Cross and Black Tor with a possible detour to Loose Hill. Return via Tor Side.
