Saint-Martin du Canigou Abbey loop
A pleasant circular walk starting from Casteil. The climb is steep on a rugged path up to the abbey and a viewpoint.The path then levels out to the Chapelle Saint-Benoît, offering magnificent views of Vernet-les-Bains.The return journey follows a tarmac road downhill, passing by the Chapel of Saint-Martin le Vieux.
Roc de la Collada via the Chapel of Saint-Étienne de Pomers
A little-visited but very pleasant area, in winter or early spring when the Canigou is covered in snow.
The trail is mostly signposted and very well marked.
Saint-Martin du Canigou Abbey
A very classic walk to Saint-Martin du Canigou Abbey, an easy route, but very popular.
The route is shaded and very pleasant. It is suitable for vehicles and pushchairs.
The abbey is nestled in a beautiful setting and is well worth a visit.
Pic du Canigou - Los Masos at the Refuge des Cortalets
First stage of this two-day route around Pic du Canigou.
Col de l'Estagnol via the Cabane de la Devèze from the hamlet of Leca
A lovely walk through the woods, best enjoyed in autumn due to the varied, colourful vegetation and beautiful views of the foothills of Canigou.
Mount Helena
Starting from the town hall in Caixas, the ascent of Mont Helena, the highest point in the area, offers a few surprises in terms of heritage and botany. And above all, an extraordinary panorama of the Roussillon.
Pic de la Pena
A half-day hike offering superb views of Canigou and the surroundings of Vernet-les-Bains. You will also see the Church of Saint-Martin du Canigou nestled in its setting. The longer version of this route can be extended to Torre de Goa, returning via the path marked on the map on the western side, or by going to Colle de Jou and descending via the correc del coll de Jou and Casteil.
The Tower of Goa (Torre de Goà) from Vernet-les-Bains
A very pretty hike that takes you to this beautiful restored tower and its stunning views.
No particular difficulties.
The GPX track may be useful, particularly from (S/E) to (6).
Pic du Canigou
If there is one peak to climb in Catalonia, it is Canigou (the Catalan Olympus). Rising to 2,784.66 metres, it offers exceptional views from the summit, where there is an orientation table.
Boule d'Amont - Coll de Seleig - Coll de Les Arques - Serrabona
The suggested walk takes you up to the ridge, where you can enjoy a superb panoramic view.Serrabona Abbey, on the route described, is well worth a visit. This site, which is in excellent condition, is currently being refurbished.An additional route starting from Serrabona can be added to this hike. *The walk will be moderately difficult (sense of direction required) and will take an extra hour and a half.Please note. Observed on 14 January 2024: after the (6), the track has been widened, the pastures cleared, and trees felled. The original path is very difficult to follow: the markings and posts have disappeared! The GPX track is very useful from this point onwards.
Canigou from Los Masos de Valmanya and the Crête du Barbet
A very beautiful hike, the difficulty lies in its length.
Passage through the chimney is visible as the yellow markings have been erased - path closed (not recommended).

The Bonabocs Valley - Arles sur Tech
Mostly a hike through the woods, on a path that climbs up the mountainside through holm oaks and cork oaks, pleasant in fine weather. Several viewpoints over the Tech valley and Canigou and river crossings. A fairly impressive cornice passage (not recommended for those who suffer from vertigo). Crossing the Bas Vallespir State Forest. Several farmhouses (ruins) and dry stone walls bear witness to the fact that man has cultivated and lived in these places.
Casteil - Mariailles Refuge
First stage of the Three Days on Canigou.
This climb to the Mariailles Refuge allows you to discover a magnificent water supply channel.
The circular of the Canigou
Ascent to the Canigou massif from the west.
Depart from the Mariailles refuge, following theGR®10to the Cortalets refuge.
The next day, climb the peak then descend via the chimney and return via Pla de Cady to the Arago Refuge, before joining theGR®10and returning to Mariailles.
Cascade des Anglais via Coll de Lloseta
A very beautiful hike, partly on marked trails. The route includes a circular path on the map that is not marked, where the descent to the Cascade des Anglais is very steep for 100 metres and should not be attempted if it is raining or still wet. In case of bad weather, plan to descend via the usual trail.
The ruins of Montferrer Castle
A pleasant, bucolic walk in the Haut Vallespir in Montferrer to explore the ruins of Montferrer Castle (el Castell Mollet).
Circular loop starting from Fillols
A beautiful hike in the forest with many different species of trees. A ridge trail from one pass to another. Fairly varied terrain offering beautiful views of Canigou, Tres Estelles and Madrès. A visit to the beautifully restored orri (stone hut) at Coll de Tuja and Clot de Baladres.
The Sant-Guillem Refuge via Coll de Rua - Cortal d'Allosat from La Llau

A beautiful excursion in the Terres du Bas Conflent region, allowing you to discover four of its villages: Vinça, Finestret, Joch and Rigarda.
Col de Teixo and Coume iron mines from Baillestavy
A lovely walk through the woods, very pleasant in autumn with its many colours. At the pass, there is a view of Canigou.
Vernet-les-Bains: Pic Cogollo, circular return
A lovely, uncrowded hike above Vernet-les-Bains. Pass above the waterfalls and flirt with the access routes to Canigou.
Tour of the Corsavy forest
This is a pleasant circular route that allows you to discover the beautiful village of Corsavy and walk through a magnificent boxwood forest, where the sun hardly penetrates. The moss growing on the trunks and branches of the trees gives the forest a strange and mysterious character.
The elevation gain is relatively low, but be careful, as at times the path is quite difficult to see and you need to pay close attention, especially if you don't have a GPS signal to follow the trail.
The Coll del Miracle Circular
This route will take you to the heart of Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste, capital of the Haut Vallespir and largest commune in the Pyrénées Orientales, with a magnificent finale in the underground passages of Fort Lagarde, a Vauban fortification listed as a historic monument.
The Balcony of Canigou from Los Masos de Valmanya
From Los Masos de Valmanya, a pleasant, steady climb leads to the Abri Pinatell.Then the famous Chemin du Canigou leads to Ras de Prat Cabrera.⚠️ This route should be undertaken when there is no snow or black ice (¹)From this beautiful spot, after the track, the steep descent through the Bosc de Patriques takes you back to Los Masos.
Pic Marbet via Espira-de-Conflent
A pleasant walk that gets a little challenging towards the end. This section will allow you to discover three villages in Bas Conflent: Espira-de-Conflent, Estoher and Finistret.
Mariailles - Cortalets
The fourth stage highlights the ascent of Canigou.
Please take note of the following warnings about this route:
''Info 2023: The route linking Pic du Canigó and passing through the chimney is no longer marked. The Conflent Canigó Tourist Office cannot provide information on its accessibility. It is strongly recommended that you take the Barbet ridges (PR®8) or the GR®10 if you are coming from the Mariailles refuge to reach the Cortalets refuge.
In addition, please note: as climbing the peak is a high-altitude mountain activity, it is important to be prepared, informed and well equipped."

From Baillestavy to Valmanya via beautiful paths
From La Farga de Baillestavy (Vallestàvia), almost the entire climb to Valmanya (Vallmanya) is on theGR®36. The return journey is partly on aPR® and then on theGRP® Ronde du Canigou (Ronda del Canigó).
The return journey has a few ascents and descents. Don't hesitate to visit these two typical Catalan villages with their rich history.
Former mining station of Formentera - Coll de Reducta - Montbolo
Partly open hike with views of the mountains.This hike is classified as difficult because there are few markings on the climb to the old mining station.The descent is easier thanks to the red and yellow markings to Montbolo, then yellow.Accessible by public transport, see practical information.GPX track required in some places. (!) Please note: on 27 February 2026, I was informed that the trail is impassable from (6) to (7) due to numerous large fallen trees entangled in this part of the forest.First option: go directly from (6) to (10) via the track and possibly make a return trip to (8) in Formentera via (9). Option2: go directly from (6) to (10) via the track and continue the route towards (11), etc., without going to Formentera.
Les Mates Roges and the Mariailles Refuge from Coll de Jou
From Coll de Jou, a scenic hike with vantage points offering beautiful panoramic views.Passing through Collada de Botifarra, Mates Roges, Refuge de Mariailles, Coll del Cavall Mort, Coll de Creu.This is a much more pleasant way to reach the Refuge de Mariailles, where you may wish to stay overnight.This route is signposted and presents no difficulty apart from the steep gradient between (2), (3) and (4).
The Pic du Canigou from Los Masos
This is a 2- or 3-day hike, starting from Los Masos, the Cortalets Refuge, the Crêtes du Barbet, the Portella de Valmanya, the Brèche Durier, the Pic du Canigou, the Pic Joffre, and the Cortalets Refuge (where you can stop before descending to Los Masos).
Codalet, Salver mining site and Saint-Michel de Cuxa Abbey
A pleasant hike in Conflent Roman, on trails partly through the woods, around the Taurinya valley, where the Abbey of Saint-Michel de Cuxa (10th and 12th centuries), one of the largest pre-Romanesque churches in Europe, is nestled. See also the impressive siphon of the Bohère Canal and, at the foot of Canigou, the former Salver de Taurinya mining site. Several viewpoints over the valley and the Canigou massif.
Three days at Canigou
Three-day circular hike starting from Casteil.
It takes you up to Mariailles via an old water channel, up the Canigou via the chimney, and back to Casteil via pretty, uncrowded paths.
Between Clara and Taurinya
A beautiful and easy hike open to all in the Catalan Pyrenees Regional Nature Park, which will allow you to discover the villages of Clara and Taurinya.
The starting point is in the car park opposite the Church of Saint-Martin in Clara.
The Ribera de Fillols, Le Coll de Milleres, Fillols from Corneilla
A day hike from Corneilla-de-Conflent. The total elevation gain is approximately 785 m.Do not underestimate this hike. The slope is very steep from the start.From Coll de Juell (6) to the fork (7), the balcony path allows you to enjoy the landscape of the Canigó massif. The path to Ribera de Fillols and up to the track is very beautiful.The green path from Coll de Milleres to Fillols and then the descent to Corneilla are very pleasant.The GPX track may be necessary in some places.
The mining history of Les Aspres
Passes, open-cast mines at Els Menerots, old miners' buildings, roasting oven, hoppers, old mining railway, wagons, tunnel, and finally, Roman road, snow well.
All these curiosities punctuate this beautiful and unusual route in this Catalan massif, long exploited for its iron ore.
This route consists of a few roads and tracks.
The markings are in good condition, but the GPX track will be a real bonus in places, despite the accurate IGN map.
The former Salver Mining Site - Torre Corts from St-Michel de Cuxa
Hike from pass to pass starting from the Abbey of Saint-Michel de Cuxa.Passing through the former Salver mining site then on to the Cours tower.The hike itself is not difficult, but a very good sense of direction, the ability to read the terrain, the route on the app or a GPS, and the route description are essential.Alternative routes are possible: see § Practical information.
Barraca del Faig - Coll d’en Cé from Leca
Circular walk. The first section takes you to a former grazing area. A still-standing orri, a large hut with a vaulted dry-stone roof and a newer, comfortable hut in very good condition are on the itinerary. The second section follows a path climbing along a ridge.
The final part of the hike, along the track, offers a comfortable descent.
Beautiful scenery accessible throughout the day.
This walk is largely signposted.
Please note that after heavy rain or at the end of winter, from the hut, it will probably be necessary to return to the (5) and continue along theGRP® to cross the Riu Ferrer.
Serrabonne ridge circular walk
This circular route goes around the ridges of the Serrabone priory in the Eastern Pyrenees. Starting from the priory, the trail climbs to the right towards the ridges, then follows them before descending back to the priory. Landscape of moorland and heath in the mid-mountains. The hike can be continued with a visit to the Serrabone priory in the commune of Boule d'Amont.
La Cicerola from Vernet-les-Bains
A beautiful and challenging hike above Vernet-les-Bains. I have classified this hike as difficult due to its significant gradient (900 m over 5 km) and paths that are sometimes difficult in certain places.
Tricky section at the Font del Bac dels Monjos (5) and difficult right up to (6).
Torre de Batera from El Molinot
A very beautiful hike offering access to the Batère tower via a little-known path.
Discover the Jacouty Station, the Dolmen, the Palet de Rotllan, the Coll Bufador, the Torre de Batera, the Coll de la Descarga and the Refuge des Vigourats.
This hike is classified as very difficult, as although it is largely signposted, it requires a good sense of direction and observation during part of the ascent.
The Roque Coucoulère loop via the Sant-Guillem refuge
Loop around the Sant-Guillem Chapel offering beautiful views of the Vallespir.Caution: the Torrent de la Coumelade cannot be crossed during snowmelt or after heavy storms.
La Pinosa, Puig de Sant Pere and Estanyol as a circular tour from Valmanya
A very beautiful but challenging hike (steep ascents and descents) featuring the Anciennes Mines de la Pinosa, the small pass of Pei, the Puig Sant Pere, the Coll de Cirera, the Balcon du Canigou path (GR®10) and the Maison Forestière de l'Estanyol. Then a steep descent to reach the car park at Valmanya.
This hike can be done in either direction, with the highest point being halfway along the route.
Pic Gallinàs from Batera
This is the easiest way to climb Pic Gallinàs from the Batère refuge.
Please note that this is a fairly challenging hike with over 1,000 metres of elevation gain over 4.5 km.
The path is clearly marked. The 360° view from the summit offers a stunning panorama of the Catalan mountain ranges.
Fillols - La Vista de Dalt (The Cogulló Balcony)
A short circular route along a ridge above the village of Fillols, a typical Catalan village. This hike will take you through beautiful landscapes and a rich variety of colourful and fragrant flora. As you round a bend, you might be lucky enough to spot a few chamois or see a bird of prey soaring overhead in search of its prey. Come and explore the village and its immediate surroundings, and before you leave, pop into one of the charming cafés for a welcome refreshment.
Le Pla Guillem
Explore one of the largest plateaus in the Pyrénées-Orientales, the Pla Guillem. You’ll be transported to a world reminiscent of the Scottish moors.
Snow wells – Coll de les Arques, de Saleig, de l'Aspic from Serrabona
A beautiful hike, with a significant section along the ridge, which requires the use of a GPS or the Visorando app.
Take care on the steep descent between (6) and (7). Hike classified as difficult (no signposting, sense of direction).
Early January 2024: path blocked from the Coll de les Arques. Then, after the Coll de Saleig, tree felling, pasture clearing and track widening have removed all the markings and directional signs! At Coll de l’Aspic: a large area has been cleared and widened! So no more markings; the only landmark is the old blue van at this pass.
The landscape, stretching as far as the eye can see, remains as beautiful as ever.
You should allow around 5 hours to complete this circular route, including breaks and trips to the viewpoints.
The .gpx track may prove useful at the start of the route from (2) to (6), and from (13) to (14).
Montferrer - Puig de Vilafort - La Soca - El Castell
A circular hike in Vallespir starting from the mountain village of Montferrer (830m), built on a rocky outcrop known as "lo Cingle", which offers stunning views from the foot of the feudal castle over the Roussillon plain to the sea.Beautiful landscapes can be seen throughout this hike.
