Orgreave walks

This walk explores the Rivelin Valley which lies to the west of Sheffield. The route includes a short section within the Peak District National Park. This walk goes out from Malin Bridge along the top of the valley side and comes back along the river.

A short walk in a rural area close to Sheffield along footpaths. Reasonably signposted but care is needed to keep on track. Apt to be muddy. Sheep, horses and sometimes cattle are likely to be encountered.

Barnsley and Rotherham may not be amongst the first places to spring to mind when planning a walk. However the area has many attractive rural locations including one of the country's finest houses, Wentworth Woodhouse, which is passed on this walk. The house featured in the TV series "The Country House Revealed" which visited stately homes not open to the public.

This Peak District walk explores two of the gritstone edges in the eastern sector of the National Park. The walk generally follows well defined paths and tracks and offers some fine views from elevated positions along the way. After heavy rain do expect some boggy ground under foot along some sections of the route.

This Peak District walk is another route close to the western outskirts of Sheffield. The walk explores one of the valleys that run eastwards towards the Don - in this case the Ewden Beck. The start is close to Broomhead Hall.

Chatsworth is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family.

Hardwick Hall offers many different walking paths.This particular walk is a good introduction to both the hall and the Rowthorne and Teversal Trails. Lovely walk through different landscapes, relatively flat and easy going except for the hill in Hardwick There are several variations incorporating other routes including Pleasley Country Park.

This is a varied walk skirting the Chatsworth Estate through woods and moorland.

The Thurgoland Boundary Walk is just under nine miles long and takes in part of the upper Don valley as well as some of the tributaries of the river Dove. The route includes a short section on the old Dove Valley railway above the Silkstone tunnels and the route crosses the old Woodhead rail route twice.

This Barnsley walk starts in Silkstone and includes an old waggonway, the Cannon Hall country park and sections of the Barnsley Boundary Walk and the Penistone Boundary Walk.

Really lovely varied walk starting at Calton Lees and climbing up to Calton Pastures with great views over the surrounding area of Bakewell and Chatsworth House. After passing the house climb through Stand Wood and return to the car park via Beeley.

The Cawthorne Boundary Walk is a 14 mile circular walk usually starting at the Village Hall. I have broken the roughly into 4 parts smaller of approximately 3-4 miles radiating from the village, enabling the walker to walk the village boundary in part over 4 walks or the complete boundary in 1. I pick up a public footpath close to the center of the village, opposite Beatson House restaurant and next to the Methodist Chapel.

A steady uphill walk across farmland and through woodland providing views in High Hoyland back down towards Cannon Hall and Cawthorne. An easy downhill return across farmland.

Lovely walk from Notton to West Bretton Country Park passing on some Wakefield Way section.

This an easy, relatively flat circular walk south of Wakefield. It makes use of a disused railway line and the Newmillerdam Country Park - beautiful woodlands and rolling countryside.

Starting from Bretton Country Park Visitor Centre, this walk will lead you to Horbury Bridge through woodland, Overton and Middlestown.
