(D) Departure from the campsite; join the D54 and head south.
(1) Pass through the village of Carissieu then continue in the same direction towards Trept.
(2) 1.7 km further on, pass through the village of Petit Cozance. Arrive in Trept via Rue du Garnier and continue in the same direction until you reach the church.

Turn right after the pharmacy towards Saint-Chef Le Bourg. Walk through the village, passing between the town hall and the abbey church, and continue to the roundabout. Cross the roundabout and continue in the same direction along Rue de l’Abbatiale.
(8) Walk past the Château du Marchil, then continue towards Montcarra on the D54 for 3 km until you reach the village.
(9) At the stop sign, turn right towards Saint-Savin, then, at the right-hand bend, keep left by taking the no-entry road Chemin du Bidaud, which continues as Chemin du Buclay and then Chemin du Mont-Profond. Continue to the T-junction with the D54B.
(10) At a place called Maison Million, turn left onto Chemin de Taillis Magot, walk to the red bus shelter, then turn right onto Chemin du Combat towards Montceau. Walk through the village of Montceau.
(11) At the stop sign, turn left onto Rue Centrale (D54b). Continue in this direction for 800 m, then turn right onto Rue du Marais towards the Bois de Cessieu until you reach the T-junction.
(12) Turn right onto Chemin du Marais, then left, 700 m further on, onto Chemin du Bouchet. You will arrive at a place called Aux Quatre Vents (A). A playground with a water point awaits you for your campsite

As a resident of Saint-Chef who goes hiking regularly, I have never heard of a Way of St James route passing through our town. The well-known Way of St James, which links Geneva to Le Puy-en-Velay, runs further east via Saint-Genix-sur-Guiers.
Besides, why plan a route that follows roads the whole way when there are plenty of footpaths and country lanes along the same route?
If required, I am happy to help by pointing out these paths and trails, most of which I use regularly.
Kind regards.
Gérard Barbier
