Skendleby walks

A circular walk over gently rolling countryside taking in a mix of farm fields, forest tracks and tarmac roads.

This is a charming 8 miles walk from Alford to Well. There are steady climbs through beech woods to Ulceby, before following the road down to Skendleby Psalter. From here back to Well with its rare classical church and Well Vale Hall and its lakes.

On a clear day there are views of the coast and Wolds from the higher ground.

A circular walk around the streets in the centre of the historic town of Alford. The name derives from either the Old English “alder ford” or “ford by a heathen temple”. Here the Lincolnshire Wolds meets the Lindsey Marsh.

Centred around three market places, there is a wealth of 17th and 18th century buildings including a thatched Manor House, a working windmill and fine 14th century church.

This is an enjoyable 5 mile circular walk from Alford up into the Lincolnshire Wolds at Rigsby before returning to Alford. The route follows grass tracks and quiet lanes as well as across some arable land. There are excellent views of the Lincolnshire coast and Alford town from the ridge and Rigsby.

Rigsby church has Norman features and a fine 15th century carved font.

This walk combines the history and wildlife of an ancient Wolds valley with the open space and stunning views of the Wolds and the coast, along with a visit to South Thoresby Warren Local Nature Reserve. You can also strike out into the Swaby valley or visit the small church of St. Leonard at Haugh.

This walk links the quiet villages of Belchford and Scamblesby in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Enjoy grassy paths, a stream and some fine hilltop views. There are numerous springs nearby which first attracted Neolithic settlers to the area. Two streams converge here to form the source of the River Waring, which flows to Horncastle to join the River Bain.

A strenuous ride on the south eastern edge of the Wolds, bordering attractive woodland near Burwell.

Passing through a series of lovely Lincolnshire villages, this route starts with a good climb on the edge of the Wolds and finishes with level cycling on the middle marsh.

The 14 mile Round Louth Walk circles the historic market town, journeying into the surrounding countryside of the Wolds and Marsh. The route is waymarked by a blue spire walk logo. Although the full walk is 14 miles long, there are shorter circular routes using various public footpaths back into town if you don't want to do it all in one day.

This route between two of the areas most renowned beauty spots, begins with a steady climb up the eastern rise of the Wolds but ends with a rewarding downhill return with spectacular views.

A beach walk from Wrangle to Wainfleet. An alternative route to the coastal defence banks that provides a little more interest. Open flat farmland, tiny hamlets and a long straight footpath that was once thought to have been a Roman road. The end of the walk is at Batemans Brewery where a worthy reward of some handsome ale can be purchased in this unique setting within the confines of an old windmill.

Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of a 6 mile walk exploring the Louth Canal and nearby village of Alvingham, with two churches in one churchyard. Keep a watch for the darting blue of the kingfisher or the antics of the moorhens as they squabble amongst themselves.

This is an energetic ride combining level cycling with a challenging climb out of North Ormsby, however the views out to the coast are well worth it!

This is an enjoyable, circular walk of 6.5 miles from Louth to Tathwell and Raithby. The route crosses fields and follows grass tracks to explore these small hamlets. Great views towards Stenigot Mast and beyond can be seen on a clear day.

This walk takes in the high points above Hubbard’s Hills before dropping down into the secluded Welton le Wold valley. Explore the historic church and parkland at South Elkington before journeying back to Louth.

This is a delightful walk taking you high into the Wolds. There are fine views to the coast and back to Louth with St James's Church spire visible for miles. Walking along tracks and paths, this really does give a flavour of hilly Lincolnshire.

Hubbard's Hills was donated to the town of Louth by the trustees of Auguste Alphonse Pahud, and opened to the public on 1 August 1907.

A pleasant 6 miles walk from Fotherby towards North Elkington, passing through a Deserted Medieval Village, with fine views of the eastern edge of the Wolds, across the marsh towards the coastline and round to the Humber.
