South Tyne Trail - Haltwhistle to Lambley Viaduct

Start: Layby along the road at Featherstone Bridge (NE49 0JW) Grid ref. NY 675 618

(S/E) From the bridge take left (East) in the direction of Broomhouse. Continue on this road for around 1Km, until seeing an entrance to the forest on your left hand side.

(1) Turn left to leave the road and pass the gate to enter North Wood. Continue in the wood path and then following the river (passing under the A69 with Bellister Castle on your right hand side) for around 4Km until seeing a bridge.

(2) Cross the river, then directly take right on the footpath. Continue until reaching another bridge. Cross the bridge, then go down the stairs to reach the A69.

(3) Cross the A69 and take Plenmeller road until seeing the sign for the South Tyne Trail.

(4) Turn right to go on the South Tyne Trail. Continue straight on the South Tyne Trail for around 8Km until reaching Lambley Viaduct.

(5) Cross the river using the viaduct, then go right down to reach the path along the river. After a couple of meter, cross again the river using the smaller bridge.

(6) Then take left (North) on the path along the river. Continue on this path following the river for around 5 Km until seeing Featherstone Castle on your right hand side.

(7) Once again on the road, take left to reach Featherstone Bridge (S/E)
