Description of the walk

Start: Sandwith, CA28 9UH, from the little car park at the intersection of Main street with the road going to Tarnflatt Hall.

(S/E) From the car park, take the concrete road (West) upwards leaving the village of Sandwith. Continue on this road for around 600m (passing a house on your right) before arriving at intersection with another concrete road.

(1) Turn right (North) following the public footpath sign indicating Birkham's Quarry / Link to Coast Path. Continue on this concrete road until reaching the quarry.

(2) At the quarry take left (South-West) following the public footpath sign indicating Coast to Coast/ England Coast Path/ St Bees. Continue on this path along the cliffs of St Bees Head for around 2.8km until reaching St Bees lighthouse.

(3) Take left to reach St Bees lighthouse leaving the coast path to take the concrete road in the direction of Sandwith (East). Continue on this road until reaching Tarnflatt Hall.

(4) Pass Tarnflatt Hall by staying on the main concrete road. Be careful this is a working farm. Dogs must be on lead. After passing Tarnflatt Hall continue on the concrete road until reaching the intersection of roads (1) . Then keep on this concrete road going down to arrive at the car park (S/E).

Notes

Car park: Free car park along the Main Street after the Dog & Partridge pub or there is a small car park (for two cars) first street on the right after the Dog & Partridge pub (when coming from the pub).

Terrain: Concrete roads and coastal paths

Dog-friendly: Dogs must be on lead when crossing the farm and fields with livestock.
