Thoiras walks

An easy walk with few real difficulties offering stunning panoramic views of the valleys of the Gardon in Saint-Jean and Mialet. On the trip you can discover the concretions and gours of the Grotte de Valaurie (300m of underground galleries) if the entrance is still open.

A short hike in shade to discover no less than five Neolithic dolmens, including the four dolmens of the Grande Pallières site.

A circuit that goes upstream along the Gardon de Mialet from Mas Soubeyran and passing the beautiful village of Mialet. This itinerary allows you to follow the river closely, with its meadows and bridges, but also to explore the slopes of the valley and to discover the beautiful hamlet of Aïgladines.

Thirteenth and final stage of a complete journey on the Chemin de Stevenson between Le Puy-en-Velay and Alès. This stage may involve significant changes to the GR®70 signposting, as Stevenson actually stopped at Saint-Jean-du-Gard on his journey. This last stage therefore allows you to return to a town where there are more means of communication to the starting point of the journey, while discovering the last foothills of the Cévennes.

Twelfth stage of a complete journey on the Chemin de Stevenson between Le Puy-en-Velay and Alès. This stage may include significant changes to the GR®70 signposting. It passes through several valleys among the Gardon rivers.

A nice little hike to discover Vézénobres, the medieval town, Martignargues the martyr and Saint-Étienne-de-l'Olm. Some good views, but mostly capitelles, the sources of the Mayre and the Payre, vineyards, olive trees in some places and paths under the oaks in others!

From Valleraugue, the famous trail of the 4,000 Steps up to the Mont Aigoual observatory.
To make this route into a loop, follow the GR6 on the long descent to the forest towards Aire de Côte, before finally crossing the chestnut groves above the village of Berthezène.

A hike mostly through forest, under the canopy of the Bois de Lens.
Throughout the walk you'll experience stunning scenery.
You'll also discover the Pielles Roman quarry, Macassargues caves (which were occupied by Neanderthal man), the pre-Roman sanctuary of Mabousquet (1st century BC), the Clunisian abbey of Jouffre (3rd century) and the Castellas de Montmirat (11th century).

A lovely hike, preferably done in spring to avoid the summer heat. A fine balance between shady paths in charming oak forests and open areas mostly in vineyards. The thousand-year-old juniper tree alone is worth the trip, such is its majesty.

Eleventh stage of a complete journey on the Chemin de Stevenson between Le Puy-en-Velay and Alès. This stage includes significant changes to the GR®70 signposting. This stage lies in the heart of the Cévennes National Park.

This hike will take you on paths through preserved scrubland and protected in a Natura 2000 zone. Its strong points: a village and a medieval castle overhanging fields of olive-trees and panoramas to take your breath away!

From the summit of Mont Aigoual, discover l'Hort de Dieu, the Garden of God, a favorite spot for botanists since the Renaissance, and a testing ground for today's botanists.
"Remembering the good advice of the fabulist, we wanted to plant without delay; in the spring and especially in the autumn of 1903, we planted more than 1,200 plants, including 773 trees at the Hort de Dieu... As of now, we have 219 species of trees and shrubs in cultivation or under study at the Aigoual". Charles Flahault, 1904.

A short, easy hike, provided you're not prone to vertigo, from the summit of Mont Aigoual, offering breathtaking views of the Cévennes and the Hérault valley.

This short route through the village of Saint-Chaptes in the Gard allows you to discover the rocks sculpted in open garrigue and also gives you a view over the village, its old narrow streets and its castle.

A beautiful 13 Km walk in the scrubland of Nîmes during which you will discover beautiful views of the Cevennes, magnificent capitelles and the Mediterranean vegetation: pines, cedars, fig trees, olive trees, strawberry trees, holm oaks, kermes oaks...

There are several very interesting walks in the Pic Saint-Loup area near Montpellier, with distant views of the Cévennes to the north and the sea to the south.

Amid hills and valleys, a bull ranch (manade) under the pine trees, abandoned quarries, and quaint villages with narrow, shady lanes. A wonderful glimpse of the Gard.

Ninth stage of a complete journey on the Chemin de Stevenson between Le Puy-en-Velay and Alès. This stage features significant changes to the GR®70 signposting, taking an alternative route to the GR®70 for much of the way. This means that the stage is substantially shorter than the official route. This stage marks the entry of the Chemin de Stevenson into the Cévennes region.

Not far from Nîmes, Roman and Gallo-Roman remains are legion (so to speak). Castellas, oppidums and Roman fountains line the Roque-de-Vif hill, surrounded by four charming villages in the Vaunage region: Saint-Dionisy to the north, Nages and Solorgues to the south, and Langlade to the east, with its pretty windmill.

A walk in scrubland from Langlade to the Gallo-Roman site of the Oppidum de Nages offering a view of the entire Vaunage with the Cevennes, the sea and Pic-Saint-Loup in the distance.

It ends with a visit to the village of Langlade with its narrow streets, mill, its temple, its 2 squares... and its ancient houses.

Tenth stage of a complete journey on the Chemin de Stevenson between Le Puy-en-Velay and Alès. This stage may involve significant changes to the GR®70 signposting. This stage essentially follows the Mimente valley before it flows into the Tarnon at Florac.
