Description of the walk

Start from the Roc La Tour car park, which can be reached:
either via Monthermé by taking the Route de la Lyre,
or via Thilay via the Chemin des Éteignères.

(S/E) From the car park, take theGR® trail away from the Roc la Tour site until you reach Chemin Lagard (signposted).

(1) Leave theGR® and turn right onto the yellow-marked path towards La Gire.
The path crosses a first forest road (the Woieries) then reaches the junction between the Route Forestière de la Dauphiné, the Route des Éteignères and the Chemin des Six Chênons.

(2) After a few dozen metres on the Route Forestière de la Dauphiné, turn left into the forest and follow the yellow-marked path.
Reach the Gire stream, then cross it (signposting at this point).

(3) Staying on the marked route, which heads generally north-east, reach the Grande Wèbe. (signpost).

(4) Head down to the right to reach Champ Bernard.

(5) From Champ Bernard, turn right onto the Route Forestière de la Dauphiné (tarmac) for about 150 m.
Turn left onto a path marked with yellow signposts and a GR® sign; ignore the paths on the right and continue straight ahead on theGR® to the Liris viewpoint.

(6) Retrace your steps to the tarmac road, then turn left until you reach the first path on the right (barrier).

(7) Take this path, cross the path you took earlier, then turn left at the next path.
At the next fork in the road, turn right and, keeping in the same direction, join a path marked in yellow coming from the right.

(8) Continue in the same direction until you reach a sharp bend to the right.
At this point, there are only two paths on the ground. (3 on the map)
Leave the marked path and head up to the left. At the next fork in the road, head right and keep an eye out for a path on the left that leads to the edge of the national forest.

(9) Turn left and continue in the same direction until you reach the Route Forestière des Six Chênons.

(10) Head right to reach the former hamlet of Les Six Chênons.

(11) Head up to the left towards Tchar Scaille. Continue along the path until you reach a wide track bordering a municipal boundary, then turn left until you come to a right-hand bend.

(12) Head straight ahead onto a path that runs alongside the national forest. At the end of this path, go down to the left into a forest lane. At the bottom, turn right and reach the Route Forestière des Woieries.

(13) Turn left, pass a memorial to airmen shot down during the last war and continue along the forest road until you reach a small path on the right which leads back to Chemin Lagard.

(1) Follow the path taken at the start to reach the Roc la Tour car park (S/E).

A pleasant walk in warm, sunny weather, mostly through woodland.
Apart from the length, which might be a bit much for those who aren’t used to it, there are no difficulties, so I’d classify it as easy.

Hello Didierisaso
Any comment, even a negative one, is welcome.
Three responses to your comments:
The ‘medium difficulty’ rating is based solely on distance, as stated in the practical information.
The yellow-marked trails form part of a substantial network in this vast area, created and maintained by the local council (as do the signposts, which are very useful for setting waypoints).
This hike follows parts of this network in certain sections.
It is a forest hike (love it or hate it), deliberately designed to have minimal elevation gain.
Roc la Tour has not been included in this route due to the high number of visitors.
Enjoy your walks

Hello
Up to point 7, the signposting is good (yellow), but after that it’s still yellow though the symbols don’t match the route.
Very little of interest apart from the small viewpoint and the Tchars Scailles, which isn’t much for the distance.
On what basis is the walk classified as ‘moderate’, as there are no difficulties?
Sorry I can’t be very positive
