Towards Notre-Dame-des-Fontaines and the Pont du Coq

This circular route, starting from La Brigue, allows you to explore the Lévensa Valley via a varied trail combining woodland, footbridges and ancient ruins. The route leads to the Notre-Dame-des-Fontaines Chapel, notable for its frescoes, before a gentler return via the road. Combining nature and heritage, this route offers a gradual immersion in a peaceful environment typical of the hinterland.

Description of the walk

Park at Place de la Mairie, in La Brigue.

(S/E) Head towards the river and follow it along Avenue du Général de Gaulle.

(1) Continue straight on, following the road, without crossing the bridge. Pass the fire station and continue along Chemin de Saint-Jean.

(2) Turn right towards the tennis courts.

(3) Take the path on the right, marked in yellow, located behind the tennis courts.

(4) Continue along the main path, cross a footbridge over a small tributary of the Lévensa, and reach the site of an old lime kiln.

(5) Continue slightly to the right, staying on the yellow-marked path, which runs along the upper edge of the Vallon de la Madone and joins the D143.

(6) Turn right and follow the road carefully to the Notre-Dame des Fontaines Chapel.

(7) Head back down to the previous junction.

(6) Follow the D-road with care until you reach a wayside shrine.

(8) Continue along the road until you reach the junction with the D43.

(9) Turn left, and continue with the same caution along the road until you reach the Pont du Coq junction. Take a detour to the left to see the bridge.

(10) Turn around to return to the road. Continue to the bridge over the Lévensa and cross it.

(1) Turn right onto Avenue du Général de Gaulle and head for the car park (S/E).
