Warwick HM

Explore the towers and spires of Warwickshire’s county town! Set on the River Avon, this historic market town is full of medieval, Georgian and Victorian architecture and graced with beautiful gardens and parks, crowned by its world famous Warwick Castle – the ancestral home of the Earls of Warwick.

A breath of fresh air as you wander through tranquil farmland with wonderful views over Warwick and meander along the towpath of the Grand Union Canal to the famous locks at Hatton. Strike out into glorious rolling countryside en route to Hatton’s famous flight of 21 locks on the Grand Union Canal.

On this circular walk, short sections of the route are along roads but mostly you will be walking along the riverbank, near to parks, or by the canal. Also, you will pass the historic Warwick Castle and St. John's House Museum near to the centre of Warwick. During the first part of the walk, you will enjoy a short section of The Millennium Way where it follows the Grand Union Canal. This is the walk 10 from the 44 composing the Millenium Way.

A fashionable spa town with a history built on its saline springs, Leamington Spa’s beautiful town centre is known for its Regency architecture, wide boulevards and award-winning gardens. First following the Grand Union Canal and then the River Leam, this trail takes you into the surrounding countryside to the village of Offchurch. On your route you can explore the Leam Valley Local Nature Reserve and Newbold Comyn, as well as the renowned Jephson Gardens. Branch out from this fashionable spa town to follow the Grand Union Canal to the village of Offchurch and back via Newbold Comyn.

This circular has no stiles and is therefore suitable for dogs. It goes along quiet lanes, mostly flat through some attractive woodland and open countryside. It touches the outskirts of Warwick and along a section of the Grand Union Canal. This is walk 33 from the 44 composing the Millenium Way.

This easy circular town walk can be completed in under two hours, but it is better to take at least a half day, so that you can explore some of the monuments, historical sites along the way, linger in the attractive parks, visit the museum and cafe in the Pump Rooms and enjoy the tranquillity of the Grand Union Canal and River Leam. This trail takes you from the station at Hatton who’s most notable landmark is the Hatton Locks – a lovely location to watch colourful narrowboats as they move through the flight of 21 locks, onto the Lapworth and Kingswood via the towpath of the Grand Union Canal. An easy five-mile amble following the towpath of the Grand Union Canal through some of Warwickshire’s finest countryside.
